Abstract
Introduction/Purpose: Life satisfaction has been an important aspect of social gerontology, and it is important to determine how life satisfaction varies with regard to a person's social life activities. Little is known about it from the exiting literature and more research is needed cross-culturally to understand their relationship in order make an effective ageing policy planning. The study thus aims to examine the association between social life and life satisfaction of older adults in Turkey.
Method: The study uses data collected in the 2020 Life Satisfaction Survey which is a nationally representative sample of individual and household levels in Turkey. In this study, the individual Micro survey data is used for analysis purpose. Statistical analyses include univariate, bivariate and a multiple logistic regression analysis were carried out to tease out the difference of variables for life satisfaction of older people at national level.
Results: It has been found that social life activities play important role in life satisfaction for older people and being happy in later life.
Conclusion: The research reveals that social life activities play important role in increasing life satisfaction of older people in Turkey. It means that older people should be involved in social life activities in later life to keep happiness momentum. The result is helpful for policymakers in Turkey to take adequate actions.
