Abstract

The herpes zoster virus is a common neurocutaneous infection. When the eye is involved, the virus is referred to as herpes zoster ophthalmicus. This article discusses the role of the nurse in managing the care of patients with herpes zoster ophthalmicus. It provides an overview of the condition and its associated pathophysiology. The article examines risk factors, clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, complications and prevention. It also discusses the care required to support patients during their treatment andsubsequent rehabilitation.
