Abstract
Concert work in four linked movements for violin solo, commissioned by the English Music Festival with a brief (to four separate composers) to write a piece reflecting on King Richard III. Then prefatory note cites Geoffrey Hill's prose introduction to his early sonnet sequence, 'Funeral Music', and each of the four sections carries a superscription drawn from Shakespeare's Richard III. The work has been issued as CD recording by Rupert Marshall-Luck for the English Music label, and is destined also for a DVD release concerning the English Music Festival's Richard III project with the four composers concerned.
