This paper outlines my practice-based research, which aims to adopt and disseminate cognitive film theory within documentary film studies, as well as documentary film practice, phenomenology and aesthetics. Although Currie (2004) lauds cognitive film theory's flexible, inductive and inter-disciplinary nature, predominantly suitable as a methodological framework for fiction film studies, my research aims to demonstrate its suitability as an equally grounded, bricolage methodology within documentary film practice, simultaneously propagating its potential within documentary film studies.
