Abstract

Transitioning from clinical nursing to academia presents significant challenges, requiring nurses to develop new skills, adapt to a different professional culture, and redefine their professional identity. While clinical expertise is invaluable, many nurses experience transition shock, role ambiguity, and professional isolation, which can hinder confidence and career progression (Halton et al., 2024). This article outlines ten essential rules to support a smooth transition, addressing key areas such as pedagogical development, mentorship, time management, academic writing, and maintaining clinical relevance. By following these structured strategies, clinicians moving into education can build competence, confidence, and long-term success as nurse educators.
