Abstract

Global CD release of four substantial works for the organ by Francis Pott:

Mosaici di Ravenna [15'00"] - 1981

Toccata [10'30"] - 1991

Three Hymn Tune Fantasias [29'00"] - 2013

La Chiesa del Sole [23'00"] - 2016

Additional Information: Global commercial recording made on the Marcussen 4-manual Danish organ in the Chapel of St Augustine, Tonbridge School, Kent, March 2017. A second volume is proposed for 2018 or 2019. / Mosaici di Ravenna was commercially recorded by Jeremy Filsell on the discontinued Gamut Classics label in 1991 (nla). / The Toccata has been widely performed across the UK and USA, and also in Australia, Scandinavia and Germany. It has been broadcast at least three times as the concluding voluntary for episodes of BBC Radio Three Choral Evensong. For several years it was included in the organ examinations syllabus of the Royal Northern College of Music, at the instigation of the organist Darius Battiwalla. / The Three Hymn Tune Fantasias are published by Edition Peters. These consist of a Prelude and Fugue on the tune 'Iste Confessor' (15'00"), an Improvisation on the Irish tune 'Slane' (7'00") and a Toccata on the tune 'King's Lynn' (6'00"). The Prelude and Fugue have been performed in the UK and USA by Jeremy Filsell, and in the UK by Christian Wilson. / 'La Chiesa del Sole' pays homage to the Basilica of San Miniato outside the city of Florence. This was commissioned by the Dean & Chapter of Manchester Cathedral for the inaugural recital on its new Kenneth Tickell organ (Thursday 14 September 2017) by Thomas Trotter; the same performance was broadcast by BBC Radio Three at 7.30 on Tuesday 26th September 2017. Further performances by Thomas Trotter were given at Birmingham Town Hall (Monday 6th November 2017) and Merton College Chapel, Oxford (Saturday 11th November 2017).
