Abstract

Against the backdrop of the recent financial crisis that began in 2007, this paper explores the relationship between financial education and socio-economic stability. The ensuing discussion portrays consumer-education as having a substantial role to play in the security of the financial system; it also examines the complex nature of financial literacy and its implication for policy. The conclusion presents a paradoxical relationship between economic stability and financial capability that highlights the challenges inherent in promoting it through education.
