Abstract
Motet a cappella for SATB soli and SATBSATB double chorus, setting a text conflated from two alternative versions of an anonymous mediaeval macaronic poem (English with a Latin refrain). 15-16 minutes long. Composed in 1989. Commissioned by the Schola Cantorum of Oxford. First performed by them in the Folger Library, Washington DC, and on tour across the USA. Later performed by the same forces at St John's, Smith Square, London.
The performance referred to here (given on 13 February 2016) was the subject of a 30-minute television programme featuring the entire work in concert, plus an interview with Francis Pott. An earlier CD performance of the work by the Schola Cantorum of Oxford [Hyperion, CDA67575] featured separately in an hour-long interview with Francis Pott (12 February 2016) on the musical arts programme 'Re-Choired Listening', broadcast by the Radio Arts Foundation of Saint Louis (RAF-STL). Because the RAF-STL is one of 30 networked radio stations all sharing content, this programme was broadcast across the whole of the USA when it was aired during May 2016.
