Abstract

This thesis investigates the participation of women in higher and further education in the period 1870-1930. It focuses specifically on women who studied scientific, technical and vocational subjects at two London based institutions: UCL and the polytechnic at Regents Street, aiming to determine the extent to which women were involved, both numerically and as a proportion of the total student body in each establishment.
