Grid computing promises a number of benefits to healthcare deployment as identified in a number of studies which have been identified under the label 'HealthGrid'. In fact a cluster of biological, medical, and health related R&D projects have formed the HealthGrid organisation. This paper provides a review of some of the worldwide initiatives in bringing grid infrastructure and applications to the delivery of next generation electronic healthcare services. An example incorporating wireless networking and the Grid is presented and a discussion on HealthGrid research and development is presented.
