Abstract
This is a single, self-contained chapter in the book 'Contemporary Music and Spirituality', due for publication in September 2016. The chapter is a composer's reflection on his own practice and underlying intentions, particularly within two major works: the Passion Symphony 'Christus' for organ solo (1986-91) and the oratorio 'The Cloud of Unknowing' for tenor solo, double chorus and organ (2005).
