Nash, Jez (2015) Motormouth: "Long way to grandma's". [Audio]
Abstract
This work is part of a wider body of ongoing research, exploring the demarkation (cultural, musicological and sociological) between noise and music, and the extent to which ‘liking’ can be facilitated by recontextualisation, focussing on notions of familiarity, arousal potential and Smalley’s 4 stages of surrogacy. The work features an orchestration comprised entirely of field recordings taken from a Volkswagen Sharan 1.9Tdi, coupled with a lyric based around a story in which the car is involved.
