Abstract

Does information literacy (IL) have the same meaning for those who use information from different information worlds and for different purposes, with different understandings of
what information is and what it’s for? A comparison of IL experiences between different groups suggests not; why, how and when insurance brokers (Inskip & Donaldson, 2017)
and web designers (Sayyad Abdi et al., 2013), for instance, use information seems to result in different IL experiences, arguably for those very reasons. Studies like these suggest,
however, that collective IL experiences exist within communities with such collective understandings and purposes, and a coherent analysis of those experiences is possible.
