Abstract

This thesis records the progress through a four phase grounded theory study, leading towards the development of an educational strategy for pre registration midwifery programmes. The starting point was the recognition that students of midwifery are not always enabled to learn how to use the skills of women-crntred care, often adopting the norms of contemporary practice in which there may be conflict between the needs of the organisation and the client.
