Abstract

This presentation highlights the importance of disaster gerontology in the age of globalization. The issues and challenges faced by older Rohingyas currently living in Ukhya Camps in Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh are explored and discussed. The YPSA age friendly space model for older Rohingyas has been shared with symposium audiences and useful feedback has been provided by experts in the fields of gerontology and geriatrics. The model is considered to be sustainable in ensuring the long-term health and wellbeing of older refugees. Families still play an important role in providing care for older people even in humanitarian crisis.
