Abstract

The conference was aimed at NHS staff (psychiatrists, obstetricians, midwives, health visitors, medical students and support workers), who may come into contact with patients who may be potential victims of ‘Honour’ Based Violence (HBV). The presentation focused on differentiating HBV from domestic violence and highlighting the psychological implications of the two issues. Most importantly, it informed professionals of their safeguarding duties and steps that they must take when suspecting that a patient is a potential victim of HBV.
